Experience

Here is a list of some of the stuff I have done for work. Some of it is relevant to IT, some of it is not.

I attended a boarding school in Melbourne for my last 4 years of secondary school and went on to earn a Bachelor of Civil Engineering with honours in Transport and Traffic systems from Monash University. I worked as a traffic engineer for two years before deciding that IT was more my style. Other jobs before, during and after studying included being a builder’s labourer, concreter, truck driver, mechanic and call centre supervisor.

I taught myself enough web development to leave engineering and get a job as an internet software developer writing online applications in ASP, ASP.NET and SQL Server. At the web development company I took on the responsibilities of maintaining and managing the hosting platform for our external clients and internal server management roles for the company as well as development. While here, I began studying a Masters of Entrepreneurship and Innovation (MEI) at the Swinburne University Australian Graduate School of Entpreneurship.

When the web company closed its doors, I began working for a sports specialist insurance company as their IT manager.

After insurance got too exciting for me, I moved to an entertainment/music company, The Mushroom Group, as their Group IT manager. While working there, I finished my MEI.

My most recent permanent paid job before going out on my own was working for a national recruitment company, The Beddison Group, as their National IT Manager.

I have extensive experience in planning, implementing and maintaining IT infrastructure for SME’s (100+ people, 10+ sites including international) across all aspects of IT (hardware, software, network, security, virtualisation, storage, backups, disaster recovery, telephony, mobile offices etc).

Most of my professional experience is with Microsoft technologies. I also use Linux and Mac personally and professionally.

I enjoy using my MEI to work with the businesses in creating IT solutions that give them what they need rather than putting the technology first.
